On this primate tracking safari in Rwanda, you will track the Golden monkeys and Gorillas in Volcanoes National Park. You will as well take on a Chimpanzee tracking adventure in Nyungwe Forest National Park. So on the safari, you will meet and stare in the eyes of the two Great Apes of East Africa.
Though small, Rwanda has an alluring diversity. Its home to more than 12 primate species which include the endangered Golden monkeys, Olive Baboons, L’Hoest monkeys, Grey-cheeked Mangabey among others. It’s tropical forests also harbor two of the world’s Great Apes; the Chimpanzees and Mountain Gorillas.
On this 6 day Rwanda primate tracking safari, you will visit Volcanos national park, located in the northwestern part of the country, commonly known for the Gorilla trekking safaris. The park is an extension of the Virunga ranges and covers just 160sq.km.
Additionally, you will go for Chimpanzee tracking primate experience in Nyungwe Forest. The park is located in the southwestern part of the country and its also popular for the canopy walk- 60 meters high in a mountain forest. More to the primate tracking safari experience is the beautiful landscape in these destinations you will visit, so be ready to behold the roller-coaster scenery.
Package Itinerary
Welcome to Rwanda, Home of Gorilla Adventures! You will be warmly received by the guide at the airport on the day of arrival. Later start off the journey north of the country to Volcanoes national park at Ruhengeri town. This approximately 2 hour journey to this part of the country rewards you with remarkable sights of nature.
Meal Plan: Half Board [HB]. Overnight (o/n): One & Only Gorilla Nest (Luxury)/ Da Vinci Gorilla lodge (Midrange) /Amarembo Gorilla Village (Basic).
Today after breakfast, you will transfer early to the park headquarters/ reception area, here you will be registered and assigned a ranger guide who will take you through briefing about the Gorilla tracking etiquette. Afterwards, take on the adventurous trek into the forest and follow the trail to meet the Gorilla group you will be assigned to track. The time you spend tracking the gorillas in Volcanoes national park depends on various factors like the location of the Gorilla family and its movements as well as the pace of the trackers.
Once you come across the family, you spend an hour in their presence as the ranger tells you about them, watching and taking photos.
Later retreat to the start point and transfer back to the lodge

Have breakfast at the lodge, then transfer for the Golden monkey tracking adventure in Volcanoes national park. Assemble at the reception area where you will set off for the activity with your ranger guide after briefing. You will track on of the habituated group of these primates. Golden monkey tracking is somewhat not strenuous as gorilla tracking, these primate species usually dwell in the bamboo forest zones of the park and are an interesting species to watch, having striking golden color, blend with grey-black under parts.
Once you come across them you also have an hour in their presence.
Transfer back to the lodge, checkout and depart for Kigali where you will have overnight.

After breakfast, transfer to Kigali Genocide memorial, where you will get chance to learn and know about the events that transpired during the 100 days of genocide.
Later depart Kigali and transfer southwest of the country in the direction of Nyungwe Forest national park where you arrive in the evening.

Today you will go for Chimpanzee tracking deep in the heart of Nyungwu Forest national park. Start with an early breakfast, then transfer to the park reception area at Uwinka, where you will assemble for registration and briefing. It is here you will set off into the forest with the ranger guide for Chimpanzee tracking which may last just 2 to 4 hours with one hour availed to you to watch the Chimps.
Later retreat to the start point, have a lunch break and in the afternoon, you will enjoy an extraordinary canopy walk, where you will stand high above a dense jungle canopy taking in a wide view of this rolling mountain forest.

Have a leisurely breakfast at the lodge which will mark the end of your Rwanda primate tracking safari, later checkout from the lodge and hit the road on a drive back to Kigali where you will be dropped off at the hotel or airport for your flight back home.
