The two routes (Upper and Lower), offer different experiences to hikers, the Upper route is the oldest, it’s quite challenging (steeper) but most famous because of its attractiveness. For just a few hours walk, the path descends into the Kibo saddle to the foothills of Mawenzi an area characterized by high altitude desert and then it shortly ascends gradually to the hut at Kibo. The lower route is a little shorter and more direct to Kibo hut but less famous and it is commonly used for return (descending). At this point is where we prepare to take on the hike to the summit.

The summit is undeniably beautiful and worth it. Prepare for the best Kodak shots at the Roof of Africa and this is a life changing adventure.
