The 1’019 sq.km Nyungwe Forest national park in Rwanda is a perfect Chimpanzee tracking destination in Africa. It is absolutely the largest standing block of Mountain Forest in Africa concealed by Afromontane forest vegetation, grasslands, wetland fringed zones and bamboo shrouded slopes. Nyungwe forest is situated in the southwestern part of Rwanda, and stretches to the country’s border with neighboring Burundi.
The park is one of Africa’s premier forest destinations, known for Chimpanzee and other primate tracking safaris in Rwanda. Because of its diversity, it has a great appeal to those who love exploring the dense jungles of Africa, and only matched by Uganda’s Kibale forest national park.
So with its impressive diversity, Nyungwe forest has more than 1’000 plant species, 320 species of birds and 75 species of mammals. But more to its wildlife diversity are the primates, and Nyungwe forest has a total of 13 Primate species. These include Chimpanzees, Mona Monkey, Blue Monkey, Ruwenzori Colobus, Owl-faced, Angola colobus, L’Hoest and many others.
There’s a lot of tourist experiences but on this safari, you’ll track Chimpanzee’s and other primates in Nyungwe forest national park. Additionally, you will participate in a canopy walk and let your eyes enjoy the mountain forest rollercoaster.

Note: Welcome to the Land of a Thousand Hills! Meet and greet by our guide on the day of arrival at Kigali Airport. He will then transfer you to the hotel in Kigali and its here you will have overnight.

Package Itinerary
The guide will pick you up at the hotel after breakfast, then depart Kigali and start off the morning drive southwest of the country to Nyungwe Forest National Park. On this scenic drive through this part of the country, you will stop en-route at Nyanza King’s Palace at Nyabisindi for a cultural palate or Gikongoro’s Genocide Memorial to learn about the country’s past. You have lunch en-route or at the lodge.

Strat with an early breakfast, and transfer to Nyungwe forest reception area either at; Uwinka, Kitabi or Gisakura, where you will receive briefing from the ranger guide about the Chimpanzee tracking etiquette and afterwards, you enter the forest for the ultimate trekking experience. With its immense primate diversity, you may come across various other primates like the; Blue Monkeys, Owl-faced Monkeys, Silver Monkeys, Red-tailed and Mona Monkeys.
After a lunch break, you will go for an afternoon to evening forest experience on a nature walk to discover the diversity in the forest. Expect to see lots of bird species and other mammals on this 2 hour walk, later return to the lodge for your stay.

Have an early breakfast at the lodge, then proceed to the Uwinka reception area where you will start off one of Africa’s remarkable adventures. You will participate in a 2 hour Canopy walk. Views of the evergreen towering canopy while standing 60 meters above the ground offer some of the most memorable moments in Africa. Your knees will shake high above a dense jungle canopy, while you have a rolling view of this block of a mountain forest. Later head back to the lodge, checkout and embark on the journey to Kigali, drop-off at the hotel or at the airport for your flight back home.
