Chimpanzee tracking safaris in Kibale forest national park are one way to meet the Great Apes of Africa. Apart from the Mountain Gorillas, Chimpanzees are also a type of Great Apes found in Uganda, a country proclaimed as the “Pearl of Africa”.
Kibale forest is Uganda’s mainstream destination for Chimpanzee tracking and safaris. It’s located in the western part of the country in the beautiful Fort Portal district.
The evergreen Kibale forest national park is referred to as the “Primate Capital of the World”, because of its primate diversity and density. It shelters 12 other identified primate species like; Vervets, Blue Monkeys, Potto, Black and White Colobus, Grey-cheeked Mangabeys among others. The park has a tally of more than 1,500 resident Chimpanzees.
But important to note is the diversity of Kibale as a forest Eco-system. It has 372 recorded bird species, some of which are endemic to the Albertine Rift region. The park hosts a number of butterflies and mammals, which you can encounter on the forest walk or a Chimpanzee tracking Uganda safari.

Note: Welcome to the Land of the Great Apes! Meet and Greet with our guide at the airport on arrival for this Chimpanzee tracking Uganda safari. You’re then transferred to the overnight accommodation in Kampala.

Package Itinerary
Depart Kampala after breakfast, on to the western part of the country past the rolling tea estates to Fort Portal via Mubende. You will have lunch in Fort Portal town; (optional: you may opt for a simple tour in this beautiful part of the country characterized by the towering Ruwenzori Mountains). Continue to the booked accommodation where dinner and overnight will be.
Overnight: Crater lodge (Luxury) /Primate lodge(Midrange) /Kibale Forest Camp (Standard).
Meal Plan: Half Board (HB)
After breakfast, the guide transfers you to the visitor reception area- at Kanyancu, where you meet with the ranger guide who briefs you about the Chimpanzee tracking etiquette and at 0800hours, enter the tangled forest for an amazing Chimpanzee tracking Uganda safari experience. On this 2-3hours activity, expect to encounter a number of forest species including primates and birds. On finding the Chimpanzees, you are allowed an hour in their presence; watch them feed, play, swing in tree canopies with their pant-hooting calls and later retreat to the starting point.
After your lunch break, proceed to the wetland near the park at Bigodi for a guided 2 hour nature walk. This wildlife corridor to Kibale forest shelters over 200bird species, 8primate species and swamp dwelling mammals like the Sitatungas and Bushbucks.
