The 160 Sq.km Volcanos national park situated in the northwestern part of the country is Rwanda’s premier tourist and safari destination known for Mountain Gorilla trekking. This park is part of the greater Virunga massif, a chain of 8 volcanoes running into neighboring Uganda and D.R of Congo. The Volcanos National Park itself shelters 5 of these volcanos.
This gorilla safari package, will lead you into Rwanda’s Parc National de Volcans (PNV) where you will take on an adventurous Gorilla trekking challenge through the misty mountain forest.
On your Gorilla trekking adventure in Volcanoes national park, you will track one of the 10habituated Gorilla families available to visitors. You will track the endangered Golden monkeys usually found in the Bamboo forest zones as well as hiking one of the volcanos in the park.
Package Itinerary
Welcome to the Land of the Mountain Gorillas! On the day of arrival for this Rwanda Gorilla tracking safari, you will be warmly received by our guide at Kigali International Airport who will then transfer you northwest-wards to Ruhengeri. The drive to this side of the country rewards you with glorious scenery of the countryside.
You will check-in at the lodge where dinner and overnight will be.

Start with an early breakfast, leave the lodge and proceed to the park headquarters at Kinigi where you will meet with the ranger who takes you through the gorilla trekking etiquette and afterwards, start off the activity. The hours spent tracking the gorillas vary according to various factors like pace of people tracking, location of gorilla family and its movements etc.
Tracking the Gorillas is extremely adventurous and demanding, as a result, one needs to be reasonably fit. Trekking involves moving past steep and slippery terrain with use of walking/climbing sticks; once you encounter the Mountain Gorillas, you spend an hour in their presence watching them and afterwards, retreat to the starting point.
After lunch, you will go for a 2-3hour walk in and around Musaze cave where you will take in the striking views of cascading lights from the surface, rock formations, and colony of bats. Later in the day, return to the lodge where your dinner and overnight will be.

Today you have an early start with breakfast at the lodge, then transfer to the reception area where you will start off the hiking expedition in the park. There are five different hiking trails fitting different interests and physical abilities; you can either hike Mount Bisoke which takes about 6 hours and it’s the mostly hiked summit, or the Dian Fossey memorial hike or Twin Lakes hike and is the easiest trail.
[For adventure /hiking enthusiasts, Mount Karisimbi is also available and a perfect choice and trekking takes 2days to the summit, prior arrangements can be done].

After breakfast, transfer very early to the park reception area where you will start off your Golden Monkey tracking experience which sets off at about 0700hours. On this guided experiential activity, you will trek deep in the heart of the Bamboo forest zones for about 4hours looking out for these endangered primates. Once you meet them, you are allowed an hour in their presence watching them.
Transfer back to the lodge for lunch, and later checkout and embark on the journey back to Kigali where you will be dropped off at the airport for a flight back home.
